I was called as Rector by the people of Trinity
Episcopal Church in July, 2007. I am delighted to be serving
this community. Prior to serving at Trinity, I was Associate
Rector at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Oakland and Chaplain at St.
Paul’s Episcopal School also in Oakland, California.
I came relatively late in life to the
Episcopal Church. I grew up in the Congregational Church but spent
many years away from church. It was communion—the meal shared
around the table—that drew me back to church and to the Episcopal
Church. I found myself hungry for God and for a community that
accepted my doubts and my questions. I love the Episcopal Church
both for its beautiful worship and for its acceptance of challenging
questions.
My role at Trinity is to oversee our ministries and work to see that we,
as a community, live a life of faithful discipleship while at the same
time nurturing a sense of joy and delight in all of God’s creation. I
strive to ensure that our worship is marked by healthy respect for what
Episcopalians call “the beauty of holiness”. I seek to foster loving
care for the pastoral needs of our inter-generational congregation.
Having spent much of my adult life in schools and surrounded by children
of all ages, I relish a community that lives out Jesus’ love for
children and am delighted that children are at the heart of what we at
Trinity do.
